Granite in the Kitchen: The Myth vs the Real Vastu Impact on Your Family

Granite in the kitchen has become one of the most debated Vastu topics in India. Some Vastu consultants say granite is strictly forbidden. Others say it is perfectly fine. The truth lies in understanding what Vastu actually says about materials, elements, and their interaction with the fire zone of the kitchen.

What Vastu Says About Kitchen Materials

In Vastu, every material has an elemental nature. Granite is a heavy Earth element material with a cold, stable quality. The kitchen is the Fire zone of the home. Earth element and Fire element have a complex relationship - Earth can both support Fire and smother it depending on how they are combined and in what proportion.

The Real Concern: Dark Granite

The actual Vastu concern is not granite as a material but dark granite specifically - black granite, very dark brown granite, or dark grey granite in the kitchen. These dark colours suppress the Fire element energy of the kitchen, reduce digestive fire or Jatharagni in family members, and create a cold, heavy energy in a zone that should be warm and energetic. Light-coloured granite such as white, cream, beige, or light grey does not have this problem.

What Is the Real Kitchen Vastu Problem

The bigger Vastu issues in most kitchens are far more serious than granite: kitchen placed in North East or North which is the worst placement, cooking direction facing South or West, the cook's back facing East while cooking, water sources placed next to the cooking hob creating fire-water conflict, and grey or blue tiles used throughout the kitchen.

Remedies

Use light-coloured granite - white, cream, or light beige. Avoid black or very dark granite as the dominant kitchen surface. Ensure you cook facing East. Keep red or orange coloured accessories in the kitchen as fire activators. Focus more on kitchen zone and cooking direction than granite colour.
